Licence agreement

The rules for using the StykAnimate app. It’s free, and what you make with it is yours.

In short
  • You can use StykAnimate for free, for as long as you like, on as many of your own computers as you like.
  • The animations you make are yours, and you can use them anywhere, including in monetised videos and paid work.
  • The app itself isn’t yours. Don’t copy, resell, re-upload, crack, modify or reverse engineer it, and don’t take its code or artwork for your own projects.
  • It comes as it is, without guarantees.

This End User Licence Agreement (“licence”) is between you and StykAnimate (“we”, “us”). It covers the StykAnimate desktop app, its installers and updates, and everything that comes with it: the code, built-in figures, templates, sounds, icons and artwork (together, “the app”). By installing or using the app, you agree to this licence. If you don’t agree, don’t install or use it.

1. What you’re allowed to do

We give you a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on computers you own or control, to make animations and other content.

You can share your own .styk projects, figures and movieclips with other people, for example through the community library.

2. Your animations are yours

We claim no ownership of what you make with the app. You can publish, sell and monetise your animations, videos, GIFs and images, with no fee and no attribution required (a mention is always appreciated).

You’re responsible for what you make. If your work uses characters, music or other material that belongs to someone else, it’s up to you to have the right to use it.

3. What you’re not allowed to do

Unless we have agreed to it in writing, you may not:

  1. Redistribute the app. Don’t re-upload, mirror, share or host the app or its installers anywhere else, including download sites, file-sharing sites and app stores. Link people to stykanimate.com/download instead.
  2. Sell it. Don’t sell, rent, lease or sublicense the app, charge for access to it, or bundle it with anything you sell.
  3. Take it apart. Don’t decompile, disassemble, unpack or reverse engineer the app, or try to extract its source code, except where the law gives you a right to do so that can’t be waived.
  4. Modify it. Don’t modify, patch or crack the app, or make or share modified versions, “unlocked” versions, repacks or derivative works of it.
  5. Reuse its parts. Don’t copy the app’s code, built-in figures, artwork, icons, sounds or interface design into other software, websites, games or products, or use them to build a competing app.
  6. Train AI on it. Don’t use the app’s code or assets to train or fine-tune machine-learning models.
  7. Pretend to be us. Don’t remove or change copyright notices, use the StykAnimate name or logo in a way that suggests your product, channel or website is official, or pass the app off as your own.
  8. Misuse it. Don’t bundle the app with malware, use it to break the law or anyone’s rights, or get around any of its security or limits.
  9. Abuse our servers. Don’t attack, overload, scrape or automate requests to the online services the app uses (feedback, updates, library and similar), or use them in any way other than through the app and the website as intended.

4. Who owns the app

The app is licensed, not sold. StykAnimate owns the app and all rights in it, including copyright in the code, figures, artwork and interface, and the StykAnimate name and logo. Everything we don’t expressly give you in this licence stays ours.

The app includes some open-source components. Each of those is covered by its own licence, and nothing here limits your rights under those licences.

5. Updates and online features

The Setup version checks for updates and installs them automatically. Some features, like sending feedback, browsing the community library or seeing recent releases, connect to stykanimate.com. Usage statistics are only sent if you turn them on. How we handle that data is explained in the privacy policy.

We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop developing the app or its online services at any time.

6. No warranty

The app is free and provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. We don’t promise that it will be error-free, work without interruption, or suit your needs. Save your work and keep backups. We aren’t responsible for lost projects or files.

7. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damage, or for lost data, profits or work, that comes from using or not being able to use the app. Nothing in this licence limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

8. Ending this licence

This licence lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break it. When it ends, you must stop using the app and delete it. Sections 2, 4, 6, 7 and 9 continue to apply. Animations you already made remain yours.

9. General

  • This licence is governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you keep any protections the law of your own country gives you.
  • If a part of this licence can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • We may update this licence. We’ll change the date at the top, and important changes will be mentioned in the release notes. Using a newer version of the app means you accept the licence that comes with it.
